Strawberry industrial complex

Is There a Strawberry Industrial Complex?

Why is it that strawberries always look so good at the grocery store?

The top layer is red. The bottom layer is red. Everything looks fresh, juicy and perfect.

Then you get home.

You take one strawberry from the top and suddenly discover that the middle is apparently being held together by mold.

Is this a coincidence?

Or is there a highly organized strawberry industrial complex whose entire business model depends on making sure the bad strawberries remain safely concealed until after you've paid for them?

I have no evidence.

But I have a theory.

Is there a dark backroom somewhere at every grocery store where the strawberry industrial complex is secretly staging the trays?
